Libros para Pueblos

Libros Para Pueblos was established more than fifteen years ago as an outreach program of The Oaxaca Lending Library. Initially a bookcase with 49 books was donated to preschools around the capital city of Oaxaca. Over the years we have grown and changed. Libraries now are separate facilities located in either a school or a separate municipal building that begin with 400 books and rapidly grow with scheduled additions. As the program evolves the collection matures with the children of the community as more young reader and young adult books are added to the collection

Our Mission

Our mission is to work with parents, teachers and town leaders to provide an appealing space and attractive books so the children of Oaxaca have the opportunity to learn to read for fun. Together we are fighting ignorance through the promotion of reading and the lifelong search for knowledge through the written word. After a library is installed we help the village maintain and expand the collection and offer programs and activities designed to further develop the literary talents of children and young people.

Who We Are

The Libros Para Pueblos team is made up of an international group of residents of Oaxaca. All recognize how the love of reading shaped their life. All are volunteers who receive no pay for their work or expenses.
