Library tour – Asunción Nochixtlán
February 21@10:00 am - 5:00 pm
One of the largest and most active LPP-supported libraries is located in this important city, 90 minutes north of Oaxaxa city. The “Centro de Maestros” and library are part of a larger municipal operation that delivers library books and teacher reference materials to outlying villages in remote parts of the Mixteca, often two hours away on dirt roads. Also, it has an extensive collection of reference and training materials for the area’s teachers and organizes festivals and workshops on reading promotion.
We will visit this library and distribution center, learn about its critical role in the Mixteca region, and read with the children.
Then we will drive to see visit the famous Ex-Convento de Santo Domingo de Yanhuitlán and Regional Museum, full of relics and information on the region’s pre-Hispanic and colonial history.
