Library tour – Guadalupe Etla
February 13@10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Located 40 minutes from Oaxaca city, this school library is located in the Etla district, best known for the Toledo-sponsored Centro de Artes San Agustín (CASA). The town is adjacent to the important Zapotec settlement of San José Mogote, considered by many anthropologists to be one of the oldest permanent agricultural villages in the Valley and possibly the first settlement in the area to use pottery.
The LPP-supported library is located in the town’s primary school. It has an extensive collection of children’s books, computers, and very active participation by parents. After reading with the children for an hour, the women’s collective will serve tour participants a delicious (and economical) meal.
From there we will drive to the San José Mogote Museum, where we have made special arrangements for a tour and discussion of relics, maps and genealogical charts.
