The technology program is based on providing electronic tablets and emerged as an alternative for libraries that have limited space for more books in print. As some communities lack internet connection, the electronic tablets could nonetheless store digital books, videos, and educational games on an installed memory card.
This program undoubtedly has a lot of potential beyond the storing of reading materials. It could be a resource for library operations such as cataloging, researching and other computer-based activities. At the same time, a successful program requires the exercise of great care in the planning of activities, monitoring of tablet use, restricting access to inappropriate sites, and the maintenance, back-up and replacement of equipment.
Currently we have designed a Ruta Literaria for tablets, which will follow multimedia materials such as videos, articles and songs to learn about the production, consumption and economy of coffee, a product essential to the economy of Oaxaca.
